Portsmouth, Virginia --The Virginia Circuit Court Clerks' Association has named Senator Jill H. Vogel (R-Upperville) Salvatore R. Iaquinto (R-Virginia Beach) as the recipients of their annual "Legislators of the Year" award.  The awards were presented during a ceremony during the annual convention of the Virginia Court Clerks’ Association on August 18, 2012.   Two clerks of circuit court, the Honorable Paul Ferguson (Arlington County) and the Honorable Chaz Evans-Haywood (City of Harrisonburg/Rockingham County), who co-chair the Association’s Legislative Committee conducted the ceremony to honor legislators.

Delegate Iaquinto was unable to attend the ceremony to receive his award but Clerk of the Circuit Court Tina Sinnen (City of Virginia Beach) accepted the award on his behalf.   “Delegate Iaqunito understands the importance of the services the clerks of circuit court provide citizens and I am pleased to have him as my delegate to the General Assembly.  I know he is honored to receive this award from the clerks,” commented Sinnen.

Senator Vogel was present and received the award in recognition of her work on policy and budget matters critical to court clerks in Virginia.

Gary M. Clemens, Clerk of the Circuit Court in Loudoun County said of the decision to select Vogel, "Our membership is incredibly grateful to Senator Vogel for her in-depth understanding of our issues and hard work on our behalf.  She has worked tirelessly to advance legislation that will empower clerks to better serve the citizens of the Commonwealth.  I know firsthand of her responsiveness and her genuine concern for our challenges.  She appreciates the important services provided by clerks of circuit court and her work on our issues made this a deserved honor from the Virginia Court Clerks’ Association.”

Vogel is currently serving a second term in the Senate of Virginia where she represents Winchester, the counties of Frederick, Clarke and Fauquier, and parts of Loudoun, Culpeper and Stafford Counties.  She is a member of Senate Leadership, serving as Caucus Whip.  She serves on the Senate Finance Committee, the Courts of Justice Committee, the General Laws and Technology Committee, the Privileges and Elections Committee and the Rules Committee.  Vogel is Chairman of the Senate Finance Subcommittee on General Government and Technology, the committee that oversees the courts and all state employees.  She also serves on the Finance Subcommittee on Public Safety, the Subcommittee on Claims, and the Subcommittee on Health and Human Resources.

The Virginia Court Clerks’ Association is grateful for the service of Senator Vogel and Delegate Iaquinto and is pleased to recognize them as the VCCA Legislators of the Year for 2012.
