Clerk of the Circuit Court welcomes JMU President

Clerk of the Circuit Court in Rockingham County/City of Harrisonburg welcomed the President of James Madison University, John Alger, to the courthouse on March 14, 2013.   James Madison University and the Harrisonburg community celebrated the inauguration of the President Alger who joined the university in August 2012.     President Alger served as president of Rutgers University prior to his arrival at JMU.    James Madison University’s men’s basketball team recently won the Colonial Athletic Conference title which provides them with an automatic bid in the NCAA men’s college basketball tournament.

“This is an exciting day for Harrisonburg and Rockingham County as we celebrated the inauguration of President Alger and as we celebrate JMU’s great conference tournament run and championship,”  said Chaz Evans-Haywood, clerk of the circuit court.   “The entire community celebrates this historic day and I am pleased that we could conduct this celebration on the courthouse grounds.

Clerk Evans-Haywood has served as clerk of the circuit court since 2008 and has substantially modernized the clerk’s office with new procedures and new technology.  He currently serves as the 2nd Vice-President of the Virginia Court Clerks’ Association.
